NW Inaugural Tournament 2014

Thank you to everyone who organised and played in the NW Tournament yesterday. A great team effort ensured a successful day with matches running to time, officials taking charge promptly, teams playing matches with determination whilst having fun, and the wonderful Mr Brian Kendall keeping score from dawn until dusk (well it felt like it at times!) Special thanks go to Adam GillibrandTom Atkinson and team-mates; Louise Martin and family; and Richard Lee for setting up 8 courts in just 40 minutes, and to Alison Brown (and children) for her stirling help throughout the day.

Congratulations to Intervolley who almost swept the medals board: Winners and Runners Up in the Mixed and Winners of the Mens. I hope you have recovered from being deprived of food until well into the afternoon. Congratulations, too, to Blackpool, runners up in the men's tournament.

Thanks, too, to Helen Barker for bringing over the youth of Harrogate Volleyball club ... and the loan of her battery operated mic and speaker!

The weather was wonderful and the venue (UCLan's Sports Arena, Cottam) splendid (though the cafe was just a tad too far away, given the incessant nature of the matches).  It was great to see grandparents on the court as well as on deckchairs spectating, and to see youngsters and older novices holding their own on the court along with seasoned players.

This was a tournament that saw a number of former volleyballers making a comeback and the quote of the tournament goes to one such player - from Ashton: "great day... less than great performance. Disappointing that they've started letting younger people play!"

Here's to next year!
