The first of the planned 2015 Merseyside Volleyball League Development Tournaments was the Women’s Event which took place at Leasowe Leisure Centre (on the Wirral) on Sunday 1st March.

The teams were all not currently playing in the Merseyside Volleyball League, and were composed of new teenage and older players, and some former players returning to volleyball.

The tournament was run as a 4 team pool with matches being 2 sets to 15.

JAGUARS ELLESMERE PORT are a team from the Merseyside Philippine community who are based at the E.P.I.C. Centre in Ellesmere Port.  The 2 WALLASEY teams are from Wallasey F.O.B. Volleyball Club, currently playing only in the MVL Men’s Division 2.  The WEATHERHEAD team was composed of girls from years 9 & 10 at Weatherhead High School Media Arts College in Wallasey.

The competition was good and played in the best of spirits, but noticeably with much more digging than volleying being displayed.

Congratulations to the winners, JAGUARS ELLESMERE PORT.  The 2 Wallasey FOB teams finished 2nd and 3rd and Weatherhead came fourth.

The good news from the MVL perspective was that all teams enjoyed and learned from the tournament, and there is the likelihood that some of them will play in the League in 2015/16.

(The Event planned for the 15th March 2015 at the same venue has been changed from the originally planned Men’s Tournament, to a Mixed Tournament, with more likely to follow.)
