The annual “MVL Des Jeffers Women’s Tournament” was held last Sunday 26th October 2014 at Woodchurch School Sports Centre on the Wirral.

For those who are new to the tournament, it is named after Des, who was a community activist in the Netherley district of Liverpool and started a women’s team which played for a number of years in the league.  He is also the only MVL committee member in nearly 50 years who died in office.

This year, 6 teams entered the tournament which was played as a “Round Robin” on 2 courts, with 2 set matches to 15 within an overall time limit of 25 minutes.  Most games finished in the time, with 4 being drawn. An interesting statistic, and a sign of the times, is that, of the 42 competitors, 17 were from GB and 25 were from abroad.

Congratulations to Chester Amazons on becoming Champions; & Liverpool “A” as Runners Up.
